Armand Du Plessis was born in Johannesburg on 11 January 1989 and is a law graduate from the University of Pretoria. He has a deep awareness of the plight of the youth of South Africa as evidenced by his graduate dissertation on child law and his ambition to undertake a Master’s Degree in this field.
He views his past achievements as a platform to inspire and motivate South African males of all ages. He espouses balance between soul and body which has recently won him the Mr South Africa 2014 title. Armand officially represented South Africa at the Mr World 2016 pageant held in Southport, UK in July 2016.
Armand’s success in various fashion shows and previous prestigious awards such as Mr Krugersdorp, Mr Roodepoort and Mr Pretoria Show, amongst others, are, he feels, stepping stones to becoming a role model for South African males to form the unselfish character necessary to improve the future of South Africa and its people. He hopes that the young men of South Africa will speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves and will care for the needy so that love will become the prevailing emotion that will encourage others to live honourable lives – lives worth remembering. These are the aspirations of the Men of Honour campaign launched together with the Mr South Africa at the end of January 2014.
He supports charities giving back to the community and values the opportunities afforded him by his public exposure to encourage the SA youth to be givers and not takers so that they can impact young lives on a one to one basis. Armand supports charities such as The Teddy Bear Clinic, The Cradle Of Hope House of Restoration and in line with his desire to seek awareness of the need for sound education of young South Africans he supports Deskbags.
Having accomplished his lifelong dream to become Mr South Africa he has learned that the title involves hard work and dedication – a realisation that it is better to be a “Model Male” and not just a “Male Model”.
His positivity and passion for every task he undertakes, appear destined to leave a heritage to which all South Africans may aspire regardless of their backgrounds. Armand Du Plessis has the attributes to make an impact on our world and is determined to do so through his awards and editorial endeavours highlighting social problems and issues affecting the youth of today.
